Nintendo Family Computer Weee! (and other 80’s ramblings)

May 25, 2007

I still clearly remember while i was a child.

Waking at 5AM. Sneaking downstairs. Powering up the TV. Its soft glow gently showers my still sleepy eyes. I'd connect theFamicom cables to the TV then insert the Battle City cartidge. The familiar drone sound goes out the speaker.

I'd go back up the room and gently nudge  my brother. "Manggalaw ta la" (Come on let's play), I'd say. We'd play until my parents wake up and scold us for playing games early in the morning. Hehe.

Battle CIty has 35 stages in all. We'd be jumping with glee when we reach stage 32. This, I think is the most  difficult stage.

When we get tired of playing Battle City, we'd argue what to play next - Double Dragon, Contra (up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right-b-a-select-start. hah, still remember it!), Twin bee, Punch-out, 1942 or the 30-in-1 cartridge.

If we do not have a consensus, a toss coin is the last resort. Whoever wins gets to choose the game.

I am an 80's kid. Yes I am and I believe that it is the best time to grow-up in.

Things I can remember on this decade just on top of my head:

- Batibot (there was also Batibot the radio show, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. I am not a Sesame Street Kid. I like Pong Pagong ang Kiko Matsing better. Sama mo pa si Ate Sheena at Kuya Bodjie. Si Sitsiritsit at alibangbang. Si luningning at si GingGing (tama ba?))

- Menudo

- Perfect Strangers (funny funny show. Let's do the dance of joy!)

- Alf

- My Secret Identity

- POG (or was that the 90's?)

- Fido  Dido.

- V the TV Series (watched this as a kid and one thing was strongly etched in my mind..them aliens (who are really reptiles eat rats)

- Satanista Cult (our parents used to tell us that these men have red eyes and drives red pickup truck. They go around  looking for kids and behead them pouring the blood to currently constructed bridges. Gory thought)

- Doogie Howser M.D.

- Visionaries - Knights of the Magical Light (the tagalog dub was superb).

- Inhumanoids

- Mighty Man and yukk

- Smurf

- R.A Homevision commercial

- He-Man and She-Ra (they are siblings right?)

- Tarzan (live action)

- Silver Rider (?)

- Lunch Date (Hehe)

- The Centurions (Power Extreme!)

-Sky Commanders

-BraveStarr (strength of a bear!)

-Saber Rider and the Star Sherrif

- Go-bots! (kalaban ng Transformers)

- My Little Pony (My little pony, my little pony, my little pony and friends. Wahahaha..No we don't watch this. We just see it in the commecials.)

- Rainbow Brite! (ditto)

- and yeah ThunderCats.

Man I was just supposed to write about Family Computer but this entry just wrote itself. Same with the dyip entry. It just wrote itself.

So, what do you remember most in the 80's or your childhood for that matter?

Do comment mkay? I'd like to hear from you.

i remember having a this really cool lightsaber toy which is made of a long plastic shaft (comes in yellow, orange, red, and green) attached to your regular sized flashlight. when you turn on the flash light, the sword lights up and then i wished i was a Jedi. i miss those. =(

Wow. A light saber! I grew up in the province, so we create our own toys.

There is a field near our house full of banana trees. We’d climb up and cut the leaves. We’d get the stalk that holds the leaves together then punch holes in them. We’d create guns out of it. Our hands would get stained but it was all worth it.

After the guns are created, we’d go to the field near the school. It has lots of mango trees in it, shrubs too. Perfect place to play guns (baril-barilan).

We’d play until our mothers shout on top of their lungs calling our names for supper.
